Learning to Draw

This was my portfolio of work in the ME 110 course (Design Sketching) as I learned principles and techniques for freehand sketching, rendering, and design development.

Week 1: Drawing Lines and Curves

At the start of the course, I learned about the basic technique for sketching with pens.

Weeks 2 and 3: Perspective

In the early part of the course, I learned about basic principles for drawing three-dimensional geometries with realistic perspective.

Weeks 4, 5, and 6: Rendering

Through the middle of the course, I learned about techniques to express form and material through shading with markers.

An exercise in abstracting a still life to emphasize a single object.

Designing, sketching, and rendering a whistle as a composite form from combining and cutting primitive forms.

Weeks 7, 8, 9, and 10: Final Project

For my final project, I chose to produces sketches for a human-machine interface (HMI) concept for autonomous and semi-autonomous driving. This concept features a unified input controller replacing the steering wheel, foot pedals, and gear selector, along with a new display surface replacing the windshield.
